A Morning of Sheep

Today, we started a new practice. It has been super warm here, and the lambs haven't been eating as much at midday as they ought.

This is our feeding procedure. We put a handful of two different grains into a bowl and mix it up. We then pour in a water mixture we have made that contains probiotics and electrolytes.

Before we feed them, we do some training with them so that they can perform better in the show ring. Our last exercise is having them walk to their feed. They must obey and not lead you. When they do enter the ring, you want them to not get nervous and to trust you. Adding water/liquid to their feed helps them to stay hydrated and it even helps them look better for the ring.

Once they have done a good job practicing, we reward them with their delicious feed.

This happens again 10 hours later. Don't worry, we won't post about that feeding time. :)

  1. Hmm...your sheep remind me a lot of myself... Immensely so, actually: "[He] must obey and not lead [ME]. When [he] do[es] enter the ring, [I] want [him] to not get nervous and to trust [ME]." Somehow I imagine I train less easily than your cute lil' sheep, Rachel...
